One could say that every portrait is interactive. We move nearer, farther, around, possibly returning many times, hoping to gain a clearer understanding of who the subject is, what feeling she is expressing, and what she is reacting to. Over time this understanding becomes richer, the subject becoming more and more of an intimate acquaintance, to the point that she takes on a life of her own. Yet through all of this innocent questioning the artifact remains physically unchanged, perhaps only becoming more dusty and faded.
